Besiktas claims Turkcell Super Cup with 5-0 win over Galatasaray
Besiktas defeated Galatasaray 5-0 in the Turkcell Super Cup final, securing the trophy in their first official match of the season. The match was held at Ataturk Olympic Stadium, where Besiktas repeated their success from last season’s Ziraat Turkiye Cup, which they won at the same venue.
This victory marks Besiktas’s third Super Cup title. The team had previously won the trophy in 2006 and 2022, both times in matches held abroad—Germany in 2006 and Qatar in 2022. This is the first time Besiktas has won the Super Cup in a domestic venue.
New signing Ciro Immobile made an immediate impact, scoring the fastest goal ever recorded in a Besiktas-Galatasaray derby at just 21 seconds. This goal also set a new record for the quickest goal in Super Cup history.
Another new addition, Rafa Silva, scored his first goal for Besiktas in the 90+1st minute to make it 4-0. Young player Mustafa Hekimoglu also made his mark by scoring Besiktas’s fifth goal, marking his first goal in an official match.
Jonas Svensson played a crucial role in the victory, providing the assist for Immobile’s opening goal and scoring himself in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0. This was Svensson’s first goal for Besiktas.
This win adds to Besiktas’s recent successes at Ataturk Olympic Stadium, where they have now won two consecutive finals. They previously secured the Ziraat Turkiye Cup there on May 23, defeating Trabzonspor.
The 5-0 scoreline represents Besiktas’s largest victory over Galatasaray, matching their previous biggest wins from March 17, 1933, and Dec. 29, 1940.
The victory also marks the seventh trophy for Besiktas’s Dutch coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who has previously won titles with Feyenoord and Glasgow Rangers.
