Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez vows to stay in office despite corruption allegations against his wife, calling them a ‘campaign of harassment’
Amid corruption allegations targeting his wife Begona Gomez, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez made a decisive statement on Monday, declaring that he will remain at the head of government following days of political uncertainty.
Describing the accusations as a “campaign of harassment and destruction” against him and his wife, Sanchez reaffirmed his determination to maintain his leadership role.
Sanchez emphasized his decision with a promise to approach his responsibilities as President of Spain with even greater determination.
“I undertake the decision to continue, even with even greater strength, as President of the Government of Spain.”, he said.
Sanchez added that he conveyed to King Felipe VI his determination to continue.
He also criticized opposition parties for allegedly collaborating with those spreading allegations against his wife.
In light of these developments, Sanchez announced that he will consider whether to resign or continue in office until next Monday.
The announcement comes after Gomez was indicted by Madrid’s Investigative Court No. 41 over allegations of influence peddling and commercial corruption brought by the right-wing Clean Hands trade union.
