Founded in ancient times by II. Attalos, the city of Philadelphia’s buried structures are being meticulously unearthed thanks to the combined efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Alasehir Municipality.

The excavation, sponsored by the municipality and supported by the Ministry of Culture, focuses on the ancient theater’s remains, which are being carefully uncovered and cataloged.

Alasehir Mayor Ahmet Okuzcuoglu provided insights into the project, stating, “Alaşehir is built upon the ancient city of Philadelphia founded by II. Attalos. The ancient theater we are excavating dates back to the 2nd century A.D. With the Ministry of Culture’s approval, we are conducting this rescue excavation with Alasehir Municipality as the sponsor. We are covering the costs of labor, equipment, and accommodations. Professional teams are working diligently, and by the end of this year, the excavation will be completed, paving the way for restoration work in the coming years. This will add a significant cultural asset to Alasehir.”

To further enhance tourism in Alasehir, a specialized map has been prepared for visually impaired visitors, allowing them to explore the city’s cultural landmarks independently.
