Main opposition party Eskisehir chair faces probe for animal rights speech
The Republican People’s Party (CHP) Eskisehir Provincial chair Talat Yalaz is under investigation for remarks made during a protest against the proposed amendment to the Animal Protection Law.
The Eskisehir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into Yalaz’s statements made on July 21 at Hamamyolu Street, where he protested against regulations concerning stray animals.
During the protest, Yalaz stated, “Be ready for a historic resistance. If they touch our animal friends, we will fight just as we made the streets tremble when two trees were cut down.”
The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Yalaz for “openly inciting the public to disobey the law” based on his speech.
Yalaz is expected to give his statement at the Eskisehir Courthouse on Thursday.
