Turkish Parliament kick-starts formation process of new constitution
As Türkiye gears up for a new constitution, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus starts visiting political parties to exchange opinions on how the constitution should be mapped out
As the Turkish parliament kicks off discussions for a new constitution, Speaker Kurtulmus initiates dialogue with party leaders, focusing on broad societal consensus, and begins visiting political party leaders to exchange views.
His first stop will be the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Group in the Parliament at 11:30 a.m., where he will meet with CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel.
It is also expected that the Speaker of the Parliament will meet with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahceli – who will hold a group meeting on the same day.
The visits will convey the initial messages for a new and civilian constitution. Speaker Kurtulmus will visit other party groups within the planned schedule.
Following this process, political parties will hold consultations to determine the procedures and principles for constitution-making.
All views will be considered
For this purpose, a delegation from the AK Party group will embark on a constitutional tour, visiting political parties to gauge the pulse.
All sectors of society will be consulted to ensure that a new and civilian Constitution is made with broad social consensus.
Political parties will determine their priority topics, and a joint commission will be established to expedite future work.
