EU pledges €1 billion for Syrian refugees in Türkiye
EU has pledged €1 billion to help Syrian refugees and host communities in Türkiye, the European Commission announced in a statement on Monday following the 8th Brussels Conference on “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region.”
The pledge comes in addition to the already allocated total of €2.12 billion for 2024 and 2025 to support Syrians inside Syria, Syrian refugees in neighboring countries and host communities in Türkiye, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.
The commitment builds on previous ones made during the 7th Brussels Conference in 2023, including €560 million for 2024 to assist the Syrian population, refugees and vulnerable host communities in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.
In addition, a further €560 million has been committed for neighboring countries in 2025 which are part of a fiscal package covering the period until 2027.
The statement underscores the EU’s dedication to a political solution in Syria, aligning with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254. It highlights the importance of collaboration among EU institutions, member states, neighboring countries, partner nations, donors, and international organizations, including the U.N.
Janez Lenarcic, EU Commissioner for Crisis Management and Humanitarian Aid, announced that a total of €7.5 billion in grants and loans were pledged at the end of the conference.
