According to a report by Iranian state television, an additional €1.8 billion has been allocated to the defense budget to enhance security and manage irregular migration along the country’s eastern borders.

Speaking at a national security meeting in Mashhad, the Spokesperson for the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Ebrahim Rezaei, stated, “The Parliament has approved an additional $1.96 billion defense budget, in addition to last year’s approved budget, to strengthen the defense budget.”

Rezaei emphasized that the budget aims to improve security issues, particularly in the eastern regions of the country. He stated, “The request of the National Security Commission is to close the eastern borders of the country. During the meeting, the government’s efforts in this regard were appreciated, and it was emphasized that the closure of the borders should be expedited and completed.”

Iran plans to close its eastern borders to prevent irregular migration. President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian had also stated during his election campaign that his plans to address irregular migration would be implemented.
