Trump vows to end war in Gaza
As former U.S. President Donald Trump accepted the presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention, he pledged to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza and release U.S. “hostages”.
In a 92-minute speech closing the four-day convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a key state in the Nov. 5 election, Trump said, “War is raging right now in Europe and the Middle East. The Biden administration cannot solve these crises.”
Trump said the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan under Joe Biden, his Democratic rival in the 2024 elections, emboldened Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine.
Trump said he would also release U.S. “hostages”, but did not elaborate on who or how they would be released.
Noting that Russian nuclear submarines are stationed off Cuba, 145 kilometers from Florida, Trump announced that, if elected, he would revive former President Ronald Reagan’s plans to develop a space-based missile defense system to protect the United States from long-range nuclear missiles.
Trump mentioned Biden’s name only once in his speech after reports that he may drop out of the race this weekend.
