President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation with Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States and current presidential candidate, addressing the recent assassination attempt on Trump and subsequent events, according to a statement from the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Directorate on Thursday.

During the call, Erdogan condemned the assassination attempt and expressed his sorrow and well-wishes to Trump. He characterized the attack as an assault on democracy itself, praising Trump’s courageous response and his decision to continue with his schedule, which Erdogan noted as a testament to the strength of democracy and a reflection of the American people’s wisdom.

Erdogan commended Trump for his unifying messages aimed at reducing polarization and tension following the attack, highlighting these actions as a demonstration of strong leadership. He also congratulated Trump on being officially nominated as the Republican Party’s candidate for the upcoming presidential election.

President Erdogan concluded by expressing his hope that the November presidential election would be beneficial for both the American people and the relations between Türkiye and the United States.
