The terrorist organization PKK/YPG has killed thousands of people since its first attack in Siirt in 1984. The terrorist organization, which has a presence in Syria and northern Iraq, is used as a proxy actor by foreign states after proxy wars came to the fore in the Middle East following the Arab Spring.
Türkiye is conducting counterterrorism operations in Syria and Iraq within the framework of its right to self-defense under international law.
