Trump shot: Russian MP accuses defense contractors of the assassination attempt

Former U.S. President Donald Trump was injured in an assassination attempt during a rally he held in Pennsylvania on July 13.
Corey Comperatore, a Trump supporter, was reported dead due to the attack on Trump, and another spectator was severely injured. Thomas Matthew Crooks, who attempted the assassination, was killed by US security forces.
Russian official links arms contractors to Trump attack
Trump’s possible reelection as the U.S. president will have tremendous effects on U.S.-Russia relations. Hence, Russian politicians were quick to build a connection between Trump’s failed assassination and the Ukraine-Russia war.
Mikhail Sheremet, a member of the Security Committee in the lower house of the Russian parliament, claimed that defense contractors supporting President Biden’s administration would not be pleased with a Trump presidency, directing the accusation towards arms companies.
Drawing a parallel with the assassination of the 35th US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Sheremet said, “The fate of John F. Kennedy was being prepared for Trump who was shot during a presidential campaign just as Kennedy.”
Speculation rises on Trump’s potential role in Ukraine peace
On the other hand, the Russian side highlighted Trump’s potentially significant role in ending the Ukraine War.
Since February 2022, the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has been seen as potentially ending if Trump, the U.S. presidential candidate, is re-elected. Trump promised the American people during his campaign to “end the war.”
Putin supports Trump’s initiative?
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his confidence in Trump by stating recently, “We take seriously Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine.”
The plan prepared by Fred Fleitz, who served on Trump’s National Security Council from 2017 to 2021, also envisions a ceasefire based on front lines during peace negotiations.
Fleitz mentioned that they presented their plans to Trump and received a positive response from the former president, saying, “I’m not saying he agreed with every word of it or that he agreed with it, but we’re pleased with the feedback we received.”
