July 15 coup attempt ‘gravest betrayals in nation’s history,’ says Defense Minister Guler
Defense Minister Yasar Guler Sunday described the July 15 coup attempt as “one of the gravest betrayals in the nation’s history,” reflecting on the failed attempt by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) in 2016 on the 8th anniversary.
Guler emphasized that the coup, orchestrated by traitors against democracy and national will, involved treatment that would be unthinkable even for enemy soldiers.
He praised the Turkish people for courageously defending the state’s sovereignty and their future in response to the president’s call on that fateful night.
“We were confronted with a coup, unlike any in the past, which should never have occurred. This was carried out by members of the radical FETO organization. On that night, the noble Turkish people, responding to our President’s call, courageously stood up against these traitors, defending the sovereignty of the state and their own future,” Guler emphasized.
Regarding the extensive fight against FETO infiltrators within the state following the coup attempt, Guler provided the latest updates on efforts within the Ministry of National Defense (MSB) and the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK):
So far, 23,859 personnel have been dismissed from the TSK, and the ranks of 2,292 personnel have been revoked. The number of personnel suspended or temporarily removed from duty is 245. Moving forward, our struggle against FETO will continue with great sensitivity and without compromise, based on the information and documents identified.

No traitor would be allowed to defile the Turkish military uniform, Guler concluded.
