Mahmud Basal, spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza, stated that Israel had classified the al-Mawasi area in the western part of Khan Younis as a “safe zone” for Palestinians before the bombardment that resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.

Basal highlighted that the bombed area, where tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians live in tents, was previously labeled as “safe” by Israel. He emphasized, “Israel bombed a place it had classified as ‘safe’.”

Basal also noted that the majority of casualties in the attack were children and women.

Israeli warplanes had conducted airstrikes on the al-Mawasi area, where thousands of displaced Palestinians reside, west of Khan Yunis. The bombardment resulted in at least 71 Palestinian deaths and dozens of injuries.
