Following the statement by Ozgur Ozel, the leader of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), asserting “I can convince (Syria’s regime leader Bashar) Assad to sit at the table,” CHP’s Burhanettin Bulut announced that they had made contact with the Damascus administration and confirmed that a visit would take place.

Bulut, speaking on a TV program, mentioned for the first time that Ozel will visit Syria and engage with the Damascus government. Bulut indicated that they have initiated contact with the Syrian administration and received a positive response regarding the visit.

Details and dates yet to be finalized

However, he did not confirm any specific date for the visit, stating that discussions about the details, including the location and timing of the meeting, are ongoing.

Previously, CHP leader Ozel had made remarks suggesting that he could potentially persuade Assad to engage in talks with Türkiye, provided that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed such intentions.
