Türkiye to thrive in multipolar world: Turkish Parliament speaker

Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus emphasized Türkiye’s readiness to seize opportunities in the emerging multipolar world during a speech at an event organized by the Turkish-American National Steering Committee (TASC) Sunday.
Multipolarity dynamics
Kurtulmus stressed that the multipolar world will bring both opportunities and challenges across various sectors, including economics, technology and military strategies.
“Therefore, we have to perceive and understand this multi-polarity of the coming period well and fight accordingly,” Kurtulmus said.
Türkiye aims to leverage its unique position as a bridge between diverse regions to foster cultural, political, and economic cooperation globally.
Kurtulmus underscored Türkiye’s strategic location in a challenging global context, asserting that it remains undeterred by threats and is keen on capitalizing on emerging opportunities.
Türkiye is one of the leading countries in the world that can establish contact with all areas of the world and has the potential to develop cultural, political and economic cooperation in all regions, he said.
Türkiye’s multifaced global diplomacy
He said that Türkiye’s foreign policy, characterized by multifaceted engagements, aims to maintain balanced relations with all nations, exemplified during the Russia-Ukraine conflict where Türkiye facilitated dialogue and negotiation.
“There is no second country in the world with as many foreign policy cards as ours,” Kurtulmus said, adding Türkiye will develop good relations with all countries without having a one-sided understanding.
“To give an example, during the Russia-Ukraine War…Türkiye was the only country that could talk to both countries, negotiate with both countries and show both countries the way to negotiation at the diplomacy table,” he said.
Looking ahead, Kurtulmus outlined Türkiye’s comprehensive foreign policy strategy focusing on regional stability, international partnerships, and advocating for a just and equitable global order.
Diplomatic engagements in U.S.
Kurtulmus’s visit to the U.S., scheduled from July 6-10, includes participation in a NATO parliamentary summit, where discussions with parliamentary leaders from NATO members and Ukraine are set to address global security challenges.
He will engage in bilateral meetings and attend a reception hosted by US House Speaker Mike Johnson, aiming to strengthen Türkiye-U.S. relations across various domains.
In addition, Kurtulmus met with representatives of the Muslim community, underscoring Türkiye’s engagement with diverse communities in the U.S.
Ambassador Sedat Onal’s perspective
Turkish Ambassador to the U.S., Sedat Onal, highlighted the current positive momentum in Türkiye-U.S. relations and emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to expanding cooperation while addressing areas of divergence.
He noted Türkiye’s efforts to foster mutual understanding and collaboration across political, economic and social domains during his address at the Diyanet Center of America.
