10 Daesh suspects nabbed in Istanbul counterterrorism operation
The Istanbul Security Directorate’s counterterrorism and intelligence branches captured 10 foreign nationals in an operation targeting individuals suspected of coordinating activities with members of the terrorist organization Daesh in conflict zones.
In this context, the counterterrorism teams organized a simultaneous operation at 17 different addresses across seven districts to apprehend suspects categorized as “foreign terrorist fighters,” perceived as a threat to the country. As a result, 10 foreign nationals were detained in the operation and subsequently taken to the police station for further procedures.
Daesh terrorist group took advantage of the power vacuum created in Syria and Iraq during the Arab Spring and carried out numerous terrorist attacks in different countries around the world. DAESH is recognized as a terrorist organization by many countries and organizations, including the European Union, the United Nations, the United States, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Canada.
