Turkish, Qatari foreign ministers discuss Gaza situation over phone

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in talks with his Qatari counterpart regarding the situation in Gaza, is followed by a series of diplomatic meetings in Ankara, including welcoming the UN Secretary-General’s Representative on Cyprus

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held discussions on the latest developments in Gaza on Monday.

Minister Fidan and Al Thani spoke over the phone, addressing ongoing efforts for a cease-fire in the besieged enclave, where Israel has reportedly killed more than 34,000 Palestinians since Oct. 7, 2023. 

Additionally, Fidan welcomed Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the personal representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Cyprus, in Ankara. However, the Foreign Ministry did not provide further details about the meeting.

Furthermore, Fidan met with Eswatini’s Foreign and International Cooperation Minister, Pholile Shakantu, during which a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of protocol was signed between the two countries, as stated by the ministry.
