Disinformation surrounding FM’s alleged meeting with Greek Orthodox Patriarch
Türkiye has firmly refuted reports suggesting that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan formally met with Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew during the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry categorically dismissed these claims as inaccurate.
Reports alleging that the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate participated in the Summit on Peace in Ukraine at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland as a state entity, and that Fidan conducted an official bilateral meeting with Bartholomew on the sidelines of the summit, do not reflect the facts.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli addressed claims regarding the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate’s purported addition as a signatory to the joint communique issued at the summit’s conclusion.
We have sought clarification from Switzerland and Ukraine, the summit organizers, regarding these assertions
Oncu Keceli
Emphasizing Türkiye’s unchanged state policy regarding the status of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, Keceli reiterated the country’s stance on the matter.
The summit, held from June 15-16, focused on advancing peace efforts in Ukraine, with discussions taking place at the Burgenstock resort.
