Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for undermining national security and betraying the country’s soldiers during the army offensive in the Gaza Strip.

“The Foreign Affairs and Security Committee will begin discussing the smuggling and refusal bill. This is a betrayal of the fighters, a betrayal of the reservists, a betrayal of the Israeli middle class, a betrayal of the Army,” Lapid posted on the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The Israeli government is undermining the security of the state. It is selling its fighters and (their) smile,” he said, criticizing Netanyahu for his policies.

Since Oct. 7, Israel has been attacking the Gaza Strip under the pretext of destroying Hamas, with no tangible success.

In Israel, which is facing immense international criticism, two members of the war cabinet resigned, stating that Netanyahu had no concrete plan to win the war. Subsequently, Netanyahu dissolved the war cabinet.

Over 37,000 civilians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Israel is on trial at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for genocide for war crimes committed in Gaza.
