Türkiye sets solar energy record with over 44% of daily production
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar announced that on June 16, the share of solar energy in electricity production exceeded 44% during the day, setting a new record.
In a written statement, Minister Bayraktar noted that a record was broken in electricity production from solar energy on the first day of the Eid al-Adha holiday.
Minister Bayraktar shared the following information: “On June 16, we produced a total of 682,223 megawatt-hours of electricity. Of this, 109,501 megawatt-hours were generated from solar energy.”
He further stated that the share of solar energy in electricity production throughout the day was 16.05%, adding:
“During the day, this rate exceeded 44%, setting a record in this field. Additionally, the share of renewable sources in total electricity production for the entire day was 63%, while the share of domestic and renewable sources was 78.4%.”
He also recalled that Türkiye ranked in the top 11 globally and 5th in Europe in renewable energy installed capacity according to the latest statistics released by the International Renewable Energy Agency.
For the next 12 years, we aim to commission 3,500 megawatts of installed solar power each year, continuing to set new records in this field.

To reach this target, Bayraktar mentioned that they occasionally allocate capacity, adding, “We see renewable energy sources such as solar and wind as indispensable in our energy transformation. In line with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s vision of net zero emissions by 2053, we will continue our journey towards clean energy without interruption.”
