At the Burgenstock Ukraine Peace Conference, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan delivered significant remarks highlighting recent diplomatic efforts, particularly those conducted in Istanbul. Fidan reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to facilitating the peace process, emphasizing readiness to play a constructive role.

The conference, convened by Switzerland and attended by representatives from 100 countries and organizations, aimed to foster dialogue and seek solutions to the ongoing conflict. FM Fidan, representing Türkiye, conveyed crucial messages advocating for a comprehensive and inclusive diplomatic strategy.

‘Türkiye remains steadfast’

“We see progress in diplomacy as essential and believe in the necessity of a comprehensive, inclusive strategy that builds upon existing measures. Türkiye has actively participated in diplomatic efforts from the start. The Istanbul meetings in March 2022 and the Black Sea Grain Initiative exemplify potential progress through diplomacy and negotiations,” Fidan said.

“We see that this tragedy (Russia-Ukraine war) can get worse every day. Geographically, this war can go beyond Ukraine,” he also warned.

Reaffirming Türkiye’s stance to facilitate the process, he reminded the Grain Initiative’s success. “There are valuable lessons to be drawn from this initiative. Our recent efforts to implement similar mechanisms have also yielded promising results.” he added.

Türkiye remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence. Our peace vision is pragmatic, inclusive, and focused on implementation. We are determined to pave the way for a sustainable solution.
