According to U.S. officials, the Biden administration is extremely concerned that the recent escalation of violence between Israel and Hezbollah could develop into an all-out war and is working to prevent it.

Joe Biden’s administration has warned Israel in recent weeks against the idea of a “limited war” in Lebanon, cautioning that Iran could intervene and flood Lebanon with pro-Iranian militants from Syria, Iraq and even Yemen, a U.S.-based news website Axios reported Thursday.

U.S. officials say the Biden administration is trying to contain the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah as much as possible while also attempting to secure a hostage cease-fire agreement in Gaza.

The White House believes that a cease-fire in Gaza is the only measure that can significantly reduce tensions on the Israeli-Lebanese border.

Tensions have escalated along the Lebanon-Israel border with sporadic exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, marking the deadliest clashes since their full-scale war in 2006.

These developments coincide with an Israeli military campaign in Gaza, resulting in over 36,120 casualties since Oct. 7, 2023.
