UN relief chief condemns brutal Israeli attack on Nuseirat, calling for immediate cease-fire

The U.N. relief chief, Martin Griffiths, expressed deep concern on Saturday about an Israeli attack on Nuseirat in central Gaza, resulting in the death of 274 people and injuring over 600.
He emphasized that the images of death and devastation following Israel’s military operation in the area illustrate the escalating horror of the conflict.
Today, Nuseirat is the epicenter of the seismic trauma that civilians in Gaza continue to suffer.

Griffiths underscored the precarious situation in Gaza, highlighting that nowhere is safe and that the healthcare system in the besieged enclave is on the brink of collapse.
He called for the release of all hostages and stressed the imperative to protect civilians, urging an immediate end to the collective suffering inflicted by the conflict.
Israel confirmed the rescue of 5 Israeli hostages from central Gaza earlier on Saturday, following a military operation.
The Hamas-run Government Media Office reported that severe Israeli airstrikes targeted Nuseirat, areas east of Deir al-Balah, and al-Bureij and al-Maghazi in central Gaza. This coincided with a sudden incursion of vehicles east and northwest of Nuseirat.
Despite a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel has persisted in its offensive on Gaza since October 7. The toll of the conflict has been devastating, with more than 36,700 Palestinians killed, and widespread destruction and suffering in the region.
