Turkish asylum seekers turn to Germany
Despite a steady decline in asylum applications to Germany, the country remains the top choice for Turkish nationals seeking asylum elsewhere.
The latest data released by Germany’s Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) for the month of May sheds light on this trend.
According to BAMF, Turkish citizens ranked third in the number of asylum applications to Germany, following Syrian and Afghan citizens.
In the first five months of this year, 14,451 asylum applications were lodged from Türkiye. The number of applications in May alone was lower than in March and April: 1875, 1885 and 1965, respectively.
