Unemployment in Türkiye drops by over 50,000 in May

According to data from the Turkish Employment Agency (ISKUR), the number of registered unemployed individuals in May decreased by 50,315. On an annual basis, registered unemployment fell by 13.26%.

The May 2024 Statistical Bulletin, published by the General Directorate of the Turkish Employment Agency’s Labor Market and Statistics Department, indicates that the registered unemployment rate in May dropped by 13.26% compared to last year.

Breakdown of registered unemployment

In May of 2023 the number of registered unemployed was 2,322,919; this May, it was recorded at 2,272,604.

Last month, the number of registered unemployed individuals was 2,322,919, which fell to 2,272,602 in May this year. Of the registered unemployed, 48.9% were men and 51.1% were women. Additionally, 21% of the registered unemployed were young people aged between 15 and 24.

Job placements in May

In May, ISKUR facilitated the employment of 147,867 individuals. Of these, 63.6%, or 94,022, were men, and 53,845 were women.

From January to May 2024, İŞKUR facilitated a total of 582,667 job placements. The industrial sector, particularly manufacturing, saw the highest number of placements. The top professions for job placements were “Tourism and Hospitality Staff,” “Unarmed Security Guard,” and “Shelf Attendant.”

During the January-May 2024 period, ISKUR helped place 211,526 women, 184,220 young people, 16,763 individuals with disabilities, and 107,476 university graduates into jobs.

Open job positions in May

In May, ISKUR recorded 286,845 open job positions from employers. For the period from January to May 2024, the number of open job positions reached 1,144,857.
