Israel’s Netanyahu rejects genocide claims in Gaza amid ICJ hearing

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu claims ‘Israel is fighting genocide’ despite the ICJ case against his country for killing more than 23,000 Palestinians in Gaza

Tel Aviv is facing accusations of genocide at a time when it is fighting genocide, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on the social media platform X in a video message posted on Thursday evening.

“Today again we have seen a world turned upside down, where the State of Israel is accused of genocide at a time when it is fighting genocide,” Netanyahu said, arguing that the accusations against him in the highest judicial body of the United Nations are false.

The Israeli president claimed that the Israeli army was “the most moral army in the world,” citing clear evidence of deliberate targeting of civilians in the Gaza Strip and that Israeli forces “do everything to prevent civilian harm.”

Netanyahu accused South Africa, which filed a lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on charges of “ethnic cleansing and genocide”, of “hypocrisy” and claimed that “they will continue to fight terrorists and lies until a decisive victory”.

GENOCIDE COURT

The hearing on the Republic of South Africa’s request for precautionary measures at the ICJ, citing Israel’s alleged violation of the Genocide Convention in Gaza, commenced today.

On the first day of the hearing, South Africa presented its arguments.

At the hearing of the case brought by South Africa at the ICJ, lawyers representing the South African side accused Israel of its deliberate actions against Palestinians in Gaza, proving its genocidal intent.

The ICJ serves as the U.N. judicial body for the settlement of disputes under U.N. treaties and international agreements.
