China calls for unity with Türkiye against hegemony, power politics
During a joint press conference following their meeting in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced a unified stance on the Gaza conflict and broader Middle Eastern stability.
Wang expressed China’s agreement with Türkiye on the necessity of achieving a cease-fire in Gaza and advancing peace and stability in the region. He emphasized that both nations should intensify their coordination to expedite a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian issue.
China, Türkiye to uphold international justice
“An immediate ceasefire and humanitarian improvement are crucial. All captives must be released. The two-state solution remains the fundamental path to resolving the Palestinian issue. China and Turkey support Palestine’s UN membership and internal reconciliation,” Wang said.
Wang noted the alignment of China and Türkiye on enhancing strategic communication and upholding international justice.
“As major developing nations and representatives of emerging market economies, our interests overlap in many areas. We must strengthen cooperation within frameworks like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, oppose all forms of hegemony and power politics, ensure the stability of international industrial and supply chains, and guide global governance towards fairness and reason.”
Bilateral ties linked by Silk Road
Wang characterized China and Türkiye as representatives of ancient civilizations, linked by the historic Silk Road, which has fostered friendly relations and communication. He pointed out the healthy development of bilateral ties under the leadership of both countries’ leaders, noting the deepening cooperation in various fields and expressing China’s satisfaction with the progress.
During his talks with Fidan, Wang discussed bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual concern, achieving consensus on numerous topics. He stressed mutual respect’s core interests and sensitivities, reinforcing political trust, and supporting each other’s sovereignty and development interests.
“We must oppose any interference in our domestic affairs by foreign forces under the guise of democracy and human rights,” Wang stated.
He appreciated Türkiye’s adherence to the “One China” principle and supported the Turkish people’s pursuit of independent development under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s leadership.
Türkiye: First signatory of Belt and Road Initiative
Wang highlighted the shared vision of aligning national strategies and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, emphasizing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He recalled that Türkiye was the first country to sign an intergovernmental cooperation agreement with China under the BRI framework.
“China is ready to work with Türkiye to align the BRI with the Middle Corridor Initiative, leveraging various intergovernmental cooperation mechanisms to enhance collaboration in economy, trade, infrastructure, high technology, and digital economy, achieving higher levels of mutual benefit and shared gains,” Wang affirmed.
He reiterated the extensive common interests of China and Türkiye as developing countries and emerging market economies in protecting their legitimate rights, advancing development, and ensuring international justice.
“Developing multifaceted, deep, and high-level bilateral relations serves the interests of both nations and their peoples. China is prepared to elevate our bilateral relationship to new heights,” Wang concluded.
