Important move by the Directorate of Communications against deepfake: Deepfake detection software

Türkiye’s Communications Directorate announces upcoming release of deepfake detection software, aiming to combat misinformation globally and domestically

On Monday, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate announced that it will soon share new software to detect deepfake videos both domestically and internationally.

Idris Kardas, who leads the Center for Countering Disinformation, highlighted their continuous efforts, operating round-the-clock collaboration with various public institutions, to combat misinformation and furnish the public with accurate information.

“As the Center for Combating Disinformation, we are developing software to tackle this issue. We anticipate its completion soon. Within approximately a month, we will introduce an application capable of detecting deepfake videos. This tool will be made available to Türkiye and other nations worldwide,” Kardas revealed during a conference held in Konya, Türkiye.

Kardas emphasized their commitment to leveraging digital advancements to counteract misinformation, safeguarding against attempts to mislead or manipulate societies through deceptive information.

He also cited their success in thwarting false narratives generated by artificial intelligence during the conflict between Israel and Gaza.

Deepfake videos, which utilize synthetic images to impersonate individuals, have become increasingly convincing owing to advancements in data and machine learning technologies.
