Death toll from floods in Kenya rises to 277
Officials announce that the number of people who lost their lives in the floods caused by the continuous torrential rains in Kenya for the last three weeks has increased to 277
Reports indicate that torrential rains since mid-April have caused severe flooding in Kenya, resulting in 277 deaths.
Isaac Mwaura, a government spokesman, briefed the media on the ongoing flooding throughout the country.
Mwaura reported that the number of flood-related fatalities had risen to 277.
Adverse weather displaced 56,000 families and impacted an estimated 411,000 individuals.
Additionally, he reported the damage to 62 health centers nationwide, the emergence of infectious diseases, and the identification of 53 cholera cases.
In addition, the flooding has damaged 9,000 acres of agricultural land in Kenya and killed 4,000 farm animals.
The government has established 167 camps for those affected by the floods.
A number of East African countries, such as Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, are currently grappling with the detrimental consequences of the intense flooding induced by the torrential rainfall.
