Türkiye’s Communications Director Fahrettin Altun emphasized the importance of the March 31, 2024, local elections as a significant milestone in the country’s democratic journey

Communications Director Fahrettin Altun issued a resolute statement, reaffirming the country’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles and underlining the profound significance of the local elections as the countdown began for Türkiye’s democratic exercise.

In a meticulously crafted article disseminated across over 50 media outlets spanning 13 countries, Altun eloquently articulated Türkiye’s perspective, declaring: “We regard the March 31, 2024, local elections as an essential milestone in Türkiye’s journey toward democracy.”

At the heart of Altun’s narrative lies an unwavering belief in the sanctity of fair, transparent, and regular elections.

“Stressing that fair, transparent, and regular elections are the most fundamental components of modern democracies,” Altun exposed the foundational pillars of Türkiye’s democratic ethos.

With an unflinching resolve, he underscored Türkiye’s storied history, proudly declaring: “Since transitioning to a multi-party system in 1946, Türkiye has been a leader in holding regular, fair and transparent elections.”

Yet, Altun’s discourse transcended mere rhetoric, delving deeper into the fabric of Turkish society, where voter turnout serves as a tangible testament to the populace’s unwavering faith in the democratic process.

“According to the data from the OECD and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), Türkiye surpassed many Western OECD members, such as the U.S., France, Germany, and the U.K., regarding the domestic election participation rate on May 14,” This assertion not only reflects Türkiye’s democratic maturity but also underscores the electorate’s resounding voice in shaping the nation’s destiny, Altun added.

Amid the fervor of electoral anticipation, Altun’s vision for Türkiye’s future resonates with clarity and conviction: “Türkiye will conduct its elections according to democratic procedures as it has done thus far and respect the outcomes with both ruling and opposition parties.”

Looking ahead, Altun affirmed Türkiye’s commitment to conducting elections according to democratic procedures and respecting the outcomes, irrespective of ruling or opposition parties.

He outlined a vision for Türkiye’s future, focusing on national development, urban resilience initiatives in earthquake-prone areas like Istanbul, and constructing a new constitution to usher Türkiye into a new era of democratic prosperity.
