Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan condemns attack on rock concert in Moscow, branding it “heinous terrorist attack,” while U.S., EU express condolences and condemnations

In the wake of the devastating assault on a rock concert in the Moscow region, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has joined the chorus of international condemnation, branding the attack as a “heinous terrorist attack.” Fidan conveyed Türkiye’s heartfelt condolences to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov while expressing solidarity with the Russian nation and government.

In a statement issued separately, the Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives and injuries resulting from the attack on the concert hall in Moscow. Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz echoed these sentiments, vehemently denouncing the terrorist act and emphasizing that terrorism against innocent civilians constitutes a grave affront to humanity, regardless of its location or perpetrators.

The attack, which claimed the lives of 40 people and left over 100 others injured, unfolded during a performance by the music band Picnic at the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, the administrative center of the Moscow region. Despite the harrowing ordeal, the band emerged unscathed from the incident, as law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the assailants’ whereabouts.

As the scale of the tragedy reverberated globally, the European Union issued a statement expressing shock and dismay over the attack, extending heartfelt sympathies to all affected Russian citizens, while France, condemned the attack as “odious”. Similarly, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow conveyed its profound shock at the mass shooting, urging U.S. citizens to steer clear of the affected area.
