Red Bull F1 Team faces uncertainty amid allegations against team principal
Red Bull Formula One’s future is in doubt following allegations against team principal Christian Horner
The future of the Red Bull Formula One team has been cast into doubt following allegations against Christian Horner, the team’s principal. Jos Verstappen, the father of three-time F1 champion Max Verstappen, raised concerns about the team’s stability under Horner’s leadership on Sunday.
Verstappen Sr. expressed concern about possible unrest in an interview saying, “There is tension here while he remains in position… It will explode. He is playing the victim, when he is the one causing the problems.”
After the team’s parent corporation rejected a charge of suspected misbehavior by Horner, the scandal around him grew. Then, a dossier with alleged proof against Horner was sent by email to around 200 people in the F1 paddock, including important players and media representatives.
Horner has denied any misconduct, although the fact that the file’s legitimacy has not been confirmed. He refused to comment on “anonymous speculation” about the file’s contents in a statement released on Thursday.
There has been conjecture surrounding the origin of the file; some have proposed Jos Verstappen’s participation because of his outspoken criticism of Horner. Verstappen, meanwhile, angrily denied having anything to do with the event, saying, “That wouldn’t make sense… Max is doing so well here, why would I do that?”
The head of Formula 1’s regulatory body, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, voiced worries about the controversy’s possible negative effects on the sport. He did, however, make it clear that without a formal complaint, the FIA would not begin its own inquiry. “It’s damaging the sport,” Ben Sulayem remarked following a meeting with Horner. “This is damaging on a human level.”
