Paris Fashion Week unveils Dior’s sixties tribute amidst star-studded spectacle
Paris Fashion Week celebrates legacy of Dior, showcasing collection that reverberated with the revolutionary spirit of the 1960s
Paris Fashion Week kicked off with a dazzling homage to Dior’s sixties pop-culture legacy, drawing in a star-studded front row that included luminaries like Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman. Amidst a nostalgic nod to its origins, the iconic fashion house unveiled a collection that reverberated with the revolutionary spirit of the 1960s.
The catwalk featured an array of ready-to-wear outfits that skillfully combined history with modern flare, evoking the origins of “Miss Dior” during this revolutionary period. Setting the stage for an exploration of nouveau riche fantasy was the first look, a modest beige suit emblazoned with the iconic “Miss Dior” logo.
The collection included an array of textures and styles, ranging from urban denim to leopard-print themes, and featured everything from the classic charm of the little white dress to opulent gabardine. Honoring Marc Bohan, the visionary designer who led Dior’s creative direction for 25 years, the color scheme was a beautiful blend of white, beige, and gold.
The engrossing story of the “Miss Dior” line, which was launched against the turbulent background of 1968, is at the core of the collection. Inspired by an adventurous image of femininity with psychedelic overtones and daring cuts, the collection honors Catherine Dior, the founder of the house’s sister and a brave resistance fighter who survived the atrocities of a Nazi concentration camp.
“The New Look,” the current Apple TV series, reflects the tragic tale and demonstrates Dior’s lasting influence. The iconic crowd, which included Maisie Williams and Ben Mendelsohn, who play important parts in the series, testified to the classic appeal of Dior’s designs.
Thousands of excited fans flocked to the Concorde plaza as music icons like Rosalia and Blackpink’s Jisoo brought a modern twist to the festivities among the glitz and splendor.
The exquisite offerings of Victoria and Tomas from Spain kicked off the womenswear autumn/winter collections earlier in the day. Inspired by the renowned work of art by Auguste Rodin, “The Kiss,” their collection combined classical and contemporary sensibilities, with elaborate pleats and scarves that resembled sculptures.
The couple who created the name of the company, Victoria Feldman and Tomas Berzins, saw “The Kiss” as a metaphor for the fine line that separates firmness from mobility, a concept that permeates all of their painstakingly assembled works.
