Man set himself ablaze in front of Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, causing shock and prompting emergency services and US Secret Service to respond

In a disturbing incident on Sunday afternoon, a man set himself ablaze in front of the Israeli embassy located in northwest Washington, DC, prompting immediate response from emergency services and the US Secret Service. The act, which has shocked onlookers and officials alike, led to the man being quickly extinguished by members of the uniformed division of the US Secret Service, who were on the scene. He has since been transported to a local hospital with injuries described as life-threatening, according to officials from the District’s fire department.

The circumstances surrounding the self-immolation are still being investigated, with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team being called to the scene as a precaution. Their involvement came after a “suspicious vehicle” was identified, which may be connected to the individual responsible for this act. The area was secured as the EOD team worked to ensure there was no further threat to public safety.
