EU condemns Israel’s actions in Rafah, urges humanitarian access
EU condemns Israel’s military actions in Rafah and attacks on Gaza aid convoys, urging immediate cease-fire and humanitarian access
European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and the EU office issued a strongly worded statement condemning Israel’s military operation in Rafah and the repeated attacks on humanitarian aid convoys bound for Gaza.
The statement expressed outrage over the disruption of humanitarian aid distribution and the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, leading to further displacement, shortages and suffering.
The EU called on Israel to immediately cease its military operation in Rafah, emphasizing the need for Israel to defend itself within the framework of international humanitarian law while ensuring the safety of civilians. The statement also urged Israel to reopen the Rafah crossing to avoid exacerbating the already dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
In light of recent decisions by the International Court of Justice highlighting Israel’s obligation to facilitate humanitarian aid to civilians, the EU condemned attacks that impede aid delivery.
