Türkiye-US High-Level Defense Group meeting held in Ankara

A High-Level Defense Group (HLDG) meeting between Türkiye and the United States was held in Ankara, with discussions focused on strengthening defense cooperation and addressing regional and global security issues.

According to a statement by Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense (MoD), the meeting took place on April 28, 2025, with delegations led by Major General Ilkay Altindag, Director General for Defense and Security at the Turkish MoD, and Katherine Thompson, Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs at the U.S. Department of Defense.
The two sides discussed deepening defense and defense industry cooperation, exchanging views on security challenges, and reaffirming their commitment to enhancing the strategic partnership between the two nations.

Future of Türkiye-US defense cooperation
The statement also highlighted that the next HLDG meeting will take place in the United States next year.
Both countries agreed on the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration in addressing the evolving security landscape.
“The mutual desire to enhance sincere dialogue, as expressed at the highest levels, was reflected in the discussions aimed at further strengthening defense ties and addressing regional and global challenges,” the statement read.
