Israeli strikes on Gaza kill 18, including 10 at school shelter

At least 18 Palestinians were killed and many others injured in multiple Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, including 10 who died when a school sheltering displaced civilians was bombed in northeastern Gaza City, local authorities reported.
According to a statement from the Civil Defense Directorate in Gaza, Israeli warplanes targeted Yafa School, where many displaced families had taken shelter.
Rescue teams recovered bodies and pulled wounded victims from the rubble, with search and rescue operations ongoing.
Separately, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that three people were killed and several others wounded in an Israeli airstrike on a residential home in Jabalia, northern Gaza.
Another five people died in a separate airstrike that hit a tent sheltering displaced people at a school in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City.
The Israeli army also reportedly fired heavy machine guns toward residential areas in eastern Gaza City and the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.
Israel kills over 51,000 people in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023
Israel resumed its military offensive on March 18, ending a cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement reached in January. Since the start of its campaign in October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 51,300 Palestinians, the majority of whom were women and children.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice concerning its ongoing military operations in the enclave.
