‘HisTroy’ continues global festival triumph with double win in India

The internationally acclaimed film HisTroy, written by Troy Museum Director Ridvan Golcuk and directed and produced by Ulku Sonmez, continues to make waves across global film festivals. Following its Honorable Mention Award at the Milano Absurd Film Festival in Italy, the film has now garnered two major accolades at the prestigious Makizhmithran International Film Festival in India — Best Documentary and Best Original Story.

A surreal take on ancient Troy
Blending the lines between ancient mythology and contemporary absurdist humor, HisTroy offers a bold and unconventional perspective on the legends of Troy. With standout performances by Hakan Kumuk as Homer, Ugur Akgun as Virgil, and Anil Imaca as Aeneas, the film reimagines classical figures through a modern and satirical lens.
The result is a unique cinematic experience that challenges historical narratives while entertaining audiences with its inventive and sometimes surreal approach.

International recognition for cultural innovation
These latest awards from India highlight the film’s growing recognition on the global stage. With strong support from the Troy Museum, HisTroy exemplifies how cinema can act as a powerful tool for cultural exchange and heritage promotion.
“Troy’s story once again proves its universal language,” said screenwriter and Troy Museum Director Ridvan Golcuk. “It is both humbling and exhilarating to see our project resonate so deeply beyond Türkiye’s borders.”

HisTroy’s director: ‘Absurd style was the right path’
Director and producer Ulku Sonmez also expressed pride in the film’s continued success abroad: “Receiving two awards in India, following our recognition in Milan, is a testament to the dedication of our team and the power of absurd storytelling. We are honored to represent Türkiye and Troy at these international festivals.”
