‘The process has not yet reached its conclusion’

Uraloglu confirmed that discussions with both Discord and Roblox are ongoing, particularly regarding the removal and regulation of certain content on these platforms.

He stated, “Discord and Roblox are continuing discussions, and steps have been taken to remove and regulate specific content, but the process has not yet reached its conclusion. Once the matter is finalized, legal procedures will be followed to allow access.”

He further explained that the decision to block access was not made directly by the ministry to Roblox in Türkiye but followed a legal process. He added that the ministry is closely monitoring public requests and hopes that the platforms will take necessary actions soon to enable access.

Meta’s 16-year-old limit on Instagram and upcoming social media regulations

Uraloglu also addressed the recent decision by Meta to enforce a 16-year age limit for users on Instagram’s live streaming feature.

He noted that the Turkish government had influenced this decision and shared that Türkiye is taking steps to go further in terms of social media regulations.

“We will go a bit beyond this; we are working with our institutions, and we expect to make the necessary regulations this year,” Uraloglu stated.

He emphasized the importance of practical implementation and ensuring that any regulation is feasible and meaningful.

The minister revealed that discussions with the managers of eight social media platforms in Türkiye have been taking place to ensure that the regulations can be applied effectively.

He stressed that the aim is to create a sustainable framework for social media platforms that balances user safety with freedom of expression.

Istanbul Airport’s upcoming triple runway operation

Minister Uraloglu also provided insights into an upcoming operational shift at Istanbul Airport, set to begin on April 17. The airport is preparing for the world’s first triple parallel runway operation, a significant step to fully utilize its infrastructure.

“Infrastructure is a very costly investment, and we must use it at full capacity. Currently, we can only operate two aircraft simultaneously on the triple parallel runways,” Uraloglu said.

“Therefore, with the full utilization of the three runways and simultaneous operations, we have sent our team to the United States for training. We will begin the triple operation at Istanbul Airport on April 17.

This will allow planes to land without having to circle in the air and reduce taxiway distances to a minimum,” he added.

This operation aims to enhance efficiency and reduce delays by allowing aircraft to reach gates more quickly and also to ensure the airport operates at its full capacity, benefiting passengers and the aviation industry.
