Türkiye’s construction growth stalls in February, reverts to November 2024 levels

Türkiye’s construction sector contracted by 0.3% in February 2025, following 3 consecutive months of growth. On a year-over-year basis, the sector expanded by 12.7%, but this marked the lowest annual increase since November 2024.

According to official figures released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the building construction index increased by 14.9% in February 2025 compared to the same month a year earlier. The index for non-building construction—such as infrastructure projects—rose by 10.3%, while specialized construction activities, including installations and finishing works, grew by 7.1%.

In monthly terms, the building construction index rose by 0.9% compared to January 2025. The non-building construction index declined by 0.2%, and the specialized construction activities index increased by 1.6%.

In January 2025, the construction production index had increased by 15.5% year-over-year and by 5.5% on a monthly basis.

Service sector sees deeper slowdown

The services sector also recorded a slower pace of growth in February 2025, with the overall services production index rising by 1.2% year-over-year and declining by 2% on a monthly basis.

In January, services production began the year with a 7% year-over-year increase and a 3.3% rise compared to the previous month.

Sub-sector data from TurkStat indicate that administrative and support services recorded the highest year-over-year growth, increasing by 11.6%. In contrast, transportation and storage services showed the largest annual decline, falling by 3.5%.

In monthly comparisons, real estate activities recorded the highest growth among service sectors with a 5.2% increase, while professional, scientific, and technical services saw the largest decline at 6.6%.
