Religiophobic attack in Cyprus: Anti-Muslim graffiti spray painted on mosque
A mosque in Limassol, in the Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus, was attacked. Anti-Muslim writings were spray-painted on the walls of the mosque
A mosque in Limassol, within the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus was targeted with spray painted anti-Islamic graffiti again this year, as it was last year. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) strongly condemned the attack.
“This kind of assault clearly reflects the racist mindset prevalent in the South and the intolerance towards Turkish and Islamic presence,” the statement asserted.
Immediate action was urged to identify and penalize the perpetrators of the assault, along with the implementation of necessary measures to prevent such incidents.
Not the inaugural assault
The recent attack on the Albanian Mosque in Limassol, Greek Cypriot Cyprus, is not an isolated incident. Last year, another mosque in Limassol faced a similar assault involving Molotov cocktails, prompting strong reactions from the TRNC and Turkiye. Prior to the attack, “Immigrants’ Islam not welcome” was spray-painted on the mosque’s walls. The door of the mosque sustained damage as a consequence of the assault.
