Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has received heavy criticism after making two major mistakes in the UEFA Europa League quarterfinal match against Lyon.

His errors have led to a social media campaign where fans are calling for Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to replace Onana as the team’s starting goalkeeper.

‘Make him starting goalkeeper’

Some of the fan comments demanding Altay Bayindir’s inclusion as the first-choice goalkeeper include:

  • “Why is Altay Bayindir, who is better than Onana and Hojlund, still on the bench? He should start next week.”
  • “Onana is an embarrassment to both himself and Manchester United. Bayindir has a very similar profile to De Gea, but he’s far superior to the current goalkeeper.”
  • “It’s time to move on from Onana. From now on, make the Turkish goalkeeper our first choice.”

Bayindir’s performance so far

Although Bayindir has not yet featured in a Premier League match, it is expected that he will make his debut in the upcoming game against Newcastle United.

This season, Bayindir has played six matches for Manchester United across the FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League, conceding eight goals in total.
