Coal mine collapse in Türkiye’s capital injures 14 workers, 2 critical

A coal mine collapse in the Beypazari district of Ankara injured 14 workers early Thursday morning, with two in critical condition.

The incident took place in the machinery section of a mine in the Hirkatepe neighborhood. A sudden pressure-induced collapse injured nearby workers.

Emergency services rushed the injured to Beypazarı State Hospital. Two of the more severely injured workers were later transferred to Ankara for further treatment.

Ankara Governor Vasip Sahin confirmed the incident, stating that 29 workers were in the mine at the time.

“Thirteen workers were injured in the collapse—two were transferred to Ankara, while the remaining eleven are being treated at Beypazarı State Hospital,” he told Anadolu Agency.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collapse.
