Rafting season opens in Duzce’s Melen Stream just two hours from Istanbul

Located just a short two-hour drive from Istanbul, Duzce is becoming a hotspot for rafting enthusiasts. The rafting season has officially opened on the Melen Stream, a popular route passing through the Cumayeri district of Duzce, which is known for its thrilling rapids.

Perfect water levels for an exciting rafting season

Birol Tepe, the Provincial Representative for Rafting, shared with Anadolu Agency that the water levels of Melen Stream have reached the ideal conditions for rafting. He expressed his hopes for a safe and adventurous season ahead for all participants.

“We are excited to kick off the season and want everyone who visits to enjoy an adventurous year. The holiday period has brought a lot of interest, and we’re thrilled with the high demand,” Tepe said.

Snowmelt boosts stream’s flow

As the snow melts, the water levels of Melen Stream have significantly increased, creating perfect conditions for rafting. Tepe pointed out that the rise in water flow has heightened the excitement and adrenaline of adventurers.

“The snowmelt has made the stream’s flow ideal for rafting, increasing the adrenaline level to new heights,” Tepe added. “Opening the season with such excitement has raised expectations. We have made a name for ourselves, both in Türkiye and internationally, and we aim to maintain this high standard of service.”

The Melen Stream offers a 16-kilometer stretch of medium-level difficulty that attracts nature lovers from all over. With its picturesque surroundings, the stream provides an exhilarating adventure for those seeking both excitement and natural beauty.

Duzce: A hidden gem for nature lovers

Duzce, located between Ankara and Istanbul, is a nature lover’s paradise. The region opens to the Black Sea through the Melen Valley in the northwest, offering a range of natural attractions, including forests, plateaus, waterfalls, long beaches, caves, and rafting facilities.

Its rich cultural diversity is also reflected in the local cuisine, making Duzce an unforgettable destination.

Historical region rich in heritage

Historically, the area around Duzce was home to the Thracian people between 1,200 and 700 B.C., as described by ancient writers such as Herodotus, Xenophon, and Strabo.

Today, the region is still dotted with historical sites from various ancient civilizations, including the Bithynians, Romans, Genoese, and Ottomans.

Key historical landmarks include the Roman theater, bridges, and aqueducts in the ancient city of Prusias ad Hypium along the Akcakoca road, as well as the Genoese Castle, tombs, and mosques in Akcakoca, preserving the city’s rich history.
