The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation in Türkiye has been consistently providing essential support to families in tent camps in rural areas of Idlib, Syria, by distributing approximately 85,000 loaves of bread daily.
Zeki Tahiroglu, the IHH Syrian Operations Reyhanli regional office coordinator, said that this initiative has been instrumental in ensuring that war-affected and needy families have regular access to bread.
Tahiroglu emphasized the project’s continuity since the onset of the Syrian conflict in 2011, highlighting the significant contributions from donors both in Türkiye and around the globe.
“Through the generous donations of flour and financial aid, we operate seven bakeries in Idlib, Syria, producing and distributing 85,000 loaves of bread tailored to the families’ preferences,” Tahiroglu stated.
He further detailed that each bag of bread contains seven loaves and serves over 12,000 families daily, addressing the pressing needs arising from the protracted crisis in Syria.
“More than 12,000 families benefit from this work daily,” he said.
Since March 2011, Syria has been embroiled in a devastating civil war following the Assad regime’s military crackdown on peaceful protests, leading to widespread destruction and displacement.
According to the U.N., over 6 million Syrians have sought refuge outside the country, with Türkiye hosting 3 million refugees – while another 6.7 million remain internally displaced.
