Türkiye Georgia target $5 billion in bilateral trade
President Erdogan underlines that Türkiye continues to work to fully ‘reactivate’ the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway, which he called the Middle Corridor’s backbone
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the Presidential Complex, where they discussed regional, global, and bilateral relations.
During a press conference in Ankara, President Erdogan announced a target of $5 billion in bilateral trade, seeking to surpass the current $3 billion mark, describing their discussions as fruitful.
“We aim to increase our trade volume from $3.5B to over $5B, meanwhile, some 300 Turkish investors are engaged in economic developments-related projects in Georgia,” President Erdogan (referring to economic developments between Türkiye and Georgia) said.
He also underlined that Türkiye continues to work to fully “reactivate” the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway, which he called the Middle Corridor’s backbone.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to President Erdogan for his support towards Georgia’s national interest. Türkiye is Georgia’s number one trading partner, and we aim to enhance this partnership further”, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
Türkiye and Georgia forge energy pact
A significant agreement in the energy sector was formalized between Türkiye and Georgia, during the meeting attended by President Erdogan and Prime Minister Kobakhidze.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, and Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili.
Erdogan urged world to recognize the state of Palestine
Addressing regional and global issues, President Erdogan urged more countries to recognize the state of Palestine.
Erdogan emphasized the significance of the international community’s support for the Palestinian cause, especially in light of the recent decision taken by the UN Security Council on May 10, reflecting the stance of the international community.
President Erdogan stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom on legal and diplomatic grounds.
“The struggle for freedom, for which Palestinians have paid heavy prices, must be supported by all of humanity on the basis of law and diplomacy,” President Erdogan said.
Türkiye continues to defend peace, stability, and security
Referring to a shooting on Wednesday that targeted Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, Erdogan vowed to “continue to stand against any action that threatens peace, stability, and security in our region.”
Erdogan said he and Kobakhidze focused on steps to enhance the two countries’ “effectiveness” in fighting terror groups and organized crime, particularly the PKK and Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).
Stressing that Georgia is always in favor of establishing peace through negotiations, “We believe Azerbaijan and Armenia will reach a permanent peace agreement crucial for regional security,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
