Following earthquakes, severe storms hit across Greece

Greece has been hit by intense rainfall, leading to significant damage across several regions, with floods disrupting daily life and stranding vehicles.
According to Greece’s state broadcaster ERT, the downpour initially struck the Cyclades Islands yesterday before spreading today to Central Macedonia, Halkidiki, Crete, Chios, and the Dodecanese Islands. The relentless rain has resulted in widespread flooding, causing major disruptions.

Dozens of vehicles stranded in floodwaters
Heavy rainfall led to flooding on roads, leaving dozens of vehicles stranded. The severe weather has caused extensive material damage in affected areas, with emergency teams working tirelessly to manage the crisis.
Authorities issue emergency warnings
In the Dodecanese Islands, the Civil Protection Unit has issued emergency warnings via mobile alerts, urging residents to remain cautious until Wednesday evening due to the ongoing severe weather conditions.
In the Island of Poros, where “roads turned into rivers,” local authorities banned travel on the road network, and the rain caused landslides.
The flood also swept away some cars to the area of Naoussa Port.
Similarly, in Mykonos, the authorities banned the movement of vehicles while local authorities received calls for water removal from estates.
The Island of Syros experienced heavy hail that followed the rain without major damage.

Hailstorm hits Halkidiki Peninsula
In Halkidiki, the storm brought hailstones the size of hazelnuts, along with torrential rain, further complicating the situation. The extreme weather has severely impacted daily life, prompting authorities to stay on high alert.
Meteorologists warn that more heavy rains could follow, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
