Israeli attacks persist despite court ruling, says NGO Save The Children
An international nongovernmental organization (NGO) Save the Children, said Thursday that Israeli forces “categorically” ignored World Court rulings and killed at least 66 people, including children, in four days of attacks in Rafah.
“The attacks come less than a week after the @CIJ_ICJ ordered Israel to ‘immediately’ halt its military offensive in Rafah. Clearly, the orders are being categorically ignored,” Save the Children posted on its social media.
Israeli military targets displaced Palestinians
Despite the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) recent ruling ordering Israel to halt its military offensive in Rafah immediately, the attacks persist unabated. The organization condemned the ongoing violence, highlighting the blatant disregard for the court’s directives.
In two separate incidents on May 26 and May 28, the Israeli military targeted tents housing displaced Palestinians in Rafah, leading to the deaths of 66 individuals and leaving over 300 others injured. These attacks occurred despite the ICJ’s explicit order to cease such military actions.
Humanitarian crisis deepens
The situation in Rafah remains dire, with over a million Palestinians seeking refuge from the ongoing conflict. The relentless military campaign initiated by Israel, following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7 last year, has inflicted immense devastation upon the Gaza Strip.
The once-thriving enclave of 2.3 million people now lies in ruins, with a majority of civilians displaced and facing severe humanitarian crises, including homelessness and food shortages.
