Cold wave sweeps across Türkiye as temperatures plunge below 10 degrees in 60 cities

A powerful cold front sweeping in from the Balkans has sent temperatures plummeting across Türkiye, with thermometers dipping below 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit) in 60 cities.
According to data from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS), temperatures nationwide have fallen 6 to 8 degrees below seasonal norms. The cold snap has intensified snowfall in several regions, causing occasional disruptions.

Frosty conditions in major cities
Among the affected provinces are Adiyaman, Afyonkarahisar, Agri, Aksaray, Amasya, Ankara, Ardahan, Artvin, Balikesir, Bartin, Bayburt, Bilecik, Bingol, Bitlis, Bolu, Burdur, Bursa, Cankiri, Corum, Denizli, Duzce, Elazig, Erzincan, Erzurum, Eskisehir, Gaziantep, Giresun, Gumushane, Isparta, Istanbul, Kahramanmaras, Karabuk, Karaman, Kars, Kastamonu, Kayseri, Kirikkale, Kilis, Kocaeli, Konya, Kutahya, Malatya, Manisa, Mardin, Mugla, Nevsehir, Nigde, Ordu, Osmaniye, Rize, Sakarya, Samsun, Sinop, Sivas, Trabzon, Tunceli, Usak, Yalova, Yozgat, and Zonguldak.
The lowest temperature recorded in these provinces ranged between minus 4.7 and minus 9.7 degrees Celsius. The coldest spot was Nevsehir, where the mercury plunged to minus 4.7 degrees. Meanwhile, temperatures in Ankara dropped to 2.7 degrees, while Istanbul recorded a chilly 6.5 degrees.
Despite the icy grip of winter-like conditions, meteorologists predict that the cold wave will subside starting from March 23, bringing warmer temperatures and relief across the country.
