President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated he may visit the U.S. in April, following Eid ul-Fitr. The announcement came during a two-hour meeting of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Central Executive Committee, chaired by Erdogan.

The primary topics discussed were U.S. President Donald Trump and developments in Syria.

According to sources, Erdogan briefed his senior party members on his recent conversation with Trump, describing it as positive.

He stated that he expressed his hope for strengthening Türkiye-U.S. relations and extended an invitation for Trump to visit Türkiye. Both leaders agreed to plan a face-to-face meeting soon.

The Turkish president also conveyed that Trump reassured him about the U.S. Ambassador to Ankara closely monitoring developments in Türkiye, quoting Trump as saying, “He is following the process well.”

The last in-person meeting between Erdogan and Trump took place at the White House on Nov. 13, 2019. Their first official contact in Trump’s second term occurred during a phone call on March 16.
